Kew East House 2
Melbourne, Australia
Located on one of Kew’s most picturesque tree-lined streets, this home replaces a dated period property with a contemporary, light-filled residence designed to suit a family of three. The brief called for a modestly sized home with flowing spaces, abundant natural light, and a strong connection to the outdoors.
The design introduces the backyard and pool view from the moment the front door opens. The ground floor centres around a spacious kitchen with a concealed butler’s pantry and laundry, flowing into the dining area and a separate north-facing living room. A master suite, internal courtyard, and dual study zones complete the level.
Upstairs includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a secondary living space that opens onto a large terrace with city views. A cantilevered bedroom adds visual impact and shelters an outdoor area below.
Cream brickwork and blackbutt timber battening feature both inside and out, echoing the sculptural staircase that links both floors. A calm interior palette of greens, greys, and timber tones complements the natural light and clean architectural lines softened with subtle curves.
