Good Samaritan Primary School Amenities Block
Melbourne, Australia
Toilets are often overlooked, but this new toilet pavilion reimagines the space by combining contemporary facilities with a covered outdoor area that serves nearby teaching spaces. The design features a series of boxes under a large roof, embracing inclusivity and accessibility. Gender identification is marked with XX and XY chromosomes for scientific clarity, while the DDA toilet is highlighted with a positive plus sign.
Breezeways between the structures enhance natural ventilation and offer clear sightlines across the schoolyard, connecting a gum tree-lined courtyard with the existing learning village. The roof provides shelter from sun, wind, and rain, with a spotted gum bench seat and a powered stage featuring data and lighting positioned around a grove of gum trees.
This project is part of a long-term series of developments at the school, guided by a master plan created in collaboration with Principal Paul Sedunary.
