Carey Grammar Middle School
Melbourne, Australia
Carey Baptist Grammar School is a prominent Christian co-educational independent institution, dedicated to student-centred learning and well-being. As part of its strategic growth plan, the redevelopment of Carey’s Middle School building is essential to accommodate increasing student numbers.
In collaboration with school leaders, students, and teachers, Architectus created a tailored Education Design Brief that addresses the unique needs of Middle School students and educators. The design features six interconnected learning precincts, each tailored to its specific subject, with diverse learning settings and clear circulation paths.
The project centres around three core design elements: responding to the building’s context, developing an education-driven plan, and creating an architectural framework to support the curriculum. The building’s south and west elevations feature a series of modular boxes within a fabricated steel frame, visually expressing the internal plan and reflecting the local suburban context.
